Wow, techno-dweeb :o)

Yup, that's me. Sat in the Cogs labs, coding my java, then doing a quick telnet onto the USCS server to check my e-mail, reading it on another desktop instance thing, then swapping back and continuing with my java, all in the lovely system that is Unix. Hooray... Unfortunately, I'm now back on the maths machines running NT - I feel a lot better about using the computers for personal surfing and such when there are hundreds, rather than using the nice Cogs Sun whatnots, with their 4gb of RAM...

In other news, they denied my request to open up port 119 for my news access. Their reasons were actually very good - turns out a LOT of people were using news servers to download vast amounts of graphics and video, which is prohibited by the access provider the Uni uses. Therefore, I can see why I'm not allowed to use mine. Which is a shame, since I'll now have to use the Uni news feed - hope it's up to it... I can't actually find the TOS, which is a problem, since I don't even know if I'm allowed the groups I want (just AGRA and AGTS, perhaps AFAA and AFUJ too), and it'll almost certainly prohibit posting my usual brand of off-topic nonsense. Perhaps I should get the line in my room sorted after all...

Oh, and shock of all shocks - the server appears to be out right now anyway. Although they haven't put that on the MOTD, interestingly enough... Oh well, whatever.

Mice overslept by 3 hours this morning, waking up half an hour after her second lecture of the day started. That'll teach her to go out on the swings at 2am (just as it taught me) - she should have followed my lead and gone to bed before midnight. Oh well. I was meant to go shopping with Harry, Alex and Claire today (for food and handcuffs), but they had to go early, while I was still in an AI lecture, so I missed out. They forgot to go to Ann Summers anyway, so we're still without a pair of communal handcuffs. Oh well...

Um, what else is there... Well, the AI is going really well - it's actually annoying that I only get to do half a degree in it - I'd so prefer to be doing straight AI. Or, for that matter, straight Maths. I'm enjoying both, and finding that I'm not getting enough of either. Oh well, I'm sure I'll be fine in the end. My own personal AI project is coming along nicely - I have a few cracking algorithms (cracking as in the Wallace and Grommit sense of "Cracking cheese", as opposed to the breaking of codes), and now I just need a language in which to actually do them. Oh, and about 10 terrabytes of memory to store the actual thing. But heck, can't be that hard...

I've just printed off the end-of-topic test for Mathematical Methods 1. Seven questions, each worth 20 points, and you have to do five of them. With my current knowledge, I could do... well... um... Question 5 is easy enough... I could also manage 6... But the others? No chance... Which is odd, since the course outline basically reads just like the Further Maths syllabus for Complex Numbers, Numerical Methods, some Diff Eqns, and no doubt a couple of other things... But nothing new, as such. But I'm buggered if I can remember what sinh x and cosh x actually are. I know I've done them in passing, but not as part of the syllabus... Oh well...

Anyhow, even after adding money to the kitty for communal goods, I still have £20 left for this week. And since I've not bought anything today (nor do I intend to), that means that I should easily have enough to see me to the weekend. Which means that the cost of the Everclear concert has been effectively absorbed into my weekly cash allowance. Hooray. Um, anyhow, I ought to be going now. It's almost half past five, and I'm starting to feel slightly hungry. Perhaps I will stop off at a shop on the way back, to get some nice Spaghetti and Sausages, along with some chocolate... Mmm...
