Lectures
2012
unknownj
Well, went to 'em. Man, there are some hot Biology chicks in my AI lectures, I only just noticed (then again, I only just started attending). Now, let's see what we have in the "List of things to talk about today"....

Firstly, a quality USB flatbed scanner for only £50. Not bad. Maplin are selling 'em dead cheap today (were worth £100 before), but I don't think I'll go for it. Not while I have Amazon orders pending for:

Alisha's Attic - Alisha Rules The World
Oasis - Whatever
Semisonic - Pleasure EP
Dogma
Snatch
Independence Day

I think that's enough scarily expensive buying for one lifetime... They have Alisha, Dogma and Oasis in stock right now, and the bastards still haven't shipped yet. That's annoying me...

My AI lecture went very well - I found out the deadline for our assessment - it's Thursday, Feb 15th. Now all I have to do is find out WTF the assessment actually asks us to do. But the important thing is that I know how long I have. I understood every word of the lecture today, better than most of the people in the room I think. Thanks to my immediate ability to comprehend stuff that people say, I managed to grasp it all the first time he explained it all - it was about genetic algorithms, which are dead sexy and rule and stuff. But I already knew the material, thankfully. So I feel I'm up to date on everything now - hooray! :o)

So, now that I'm up to date, let's review what I was like before. Well, while I thought I was behind on everything, I did seriously consider my place here. I still can't be 100% sure that they won't just boot me out anyway, but I'm hopeful that they won't. But while I was pretty much fux0red in terms of lectures, I gave serious consideration to just pissing off and leaving. The reason is this - experience counts for more than a flashy degree. My father has demonstrated this, as have numerous other people in my life, and it's bugging me. Everybody seems to go to University these days, regardless of intelligence, and everybody seems to get a degree. As such, you can only assess people really on their ability to work - mine will not be affected by having a degree. And entry level positions often don't require the knowledge that you'd get from a degree, provided you have a bit of experience under your belt. In the next three to six years (depends how long I stay studying), I'm missing out on experience that could be used to further my career. Grrr...

On the other hand, I kinda enjoy University, and it'd be nice for the £2500 debts I have (£500 overdraft, £2k Student Loan Company) to actually have been worth something. Sure, I've learned sufficient Java that with some technical experience and a specs book I could learn the rest of it, but there's obviously still more than University can give me that work can't. Ho hum... I'm staying here, anyway, for the foreseeable future. I hope :o)

Next topic - money. Despite my terrible purchasing habits, I'm doing OK for money. While yes, I am spending money on Amazon, I have to say that I'm spending less per week on Amazon than I otherwise would on drinking in a week (or even in a night), and since I'm not going out to save money, I'm still actually doing better this way. Going out Thursday night, mind, for Vicky's birthday celebrations. I have decided to get rat-arsed. I have my 35cl bottle of brandy, and my 35cl bottle of Archers, and I can't decide which one to do it on. See, if I get drunk on the brandy, then it'll make my head pound the next day, and I'll be more likely to not be well. But then again, it takes so much more Archers to get me pissed, which is annoying. And past experience (my night hugging the toilet) has shown that the two are not easily mixed. So I dunno what to do. I think I'll just go the Brandy way :o)

Next item - music. I learned how to play Everclear - Summerland on my guitar - it's actually really easy. It's an F chord (well, that shape), and basically you just play it with the bar on Frets 1, 4, 8, 8, 6, 4. Although in practice (in terms of strumming), it's more like
1.....1.4.....4.8....886644.....
Hope that formats right - each "." or number is a beat, and the beats are quite fast... Anyhow, I really like it, and I like how I play it, but it's missing something. The first thing it's missing is a Base Guitar. I told Dad I wanted to buy a Base instead, but he told me it'd be boring. The problem is, with my sub-woofer, I can hear every single base note, and I can so figure out how to play that better. On the other hand, yes it is very boring - I like to just pound my guitar and make the funny squeals come out of it, which a base can't do. But nevertheless, I'm still missing that depth to my music. I'm also missing drums, and every other instrument used, but I have a plan.......

....... In addition to having a plan, I have a nice expensive Yamaha keyboard. I told my sister she could use it while I'm gone, but I've decided that perhaps I should clear some space for it in my room here, and have it brought down somehow. The logic behind it being that with it, I can lay down drum beats, and whatever other instruments bands have, and just play guitar to the backing of that. Which would totally rule. And also, I could just hook it up to my PC, and do midi sequencing and stuff. It's certainly worth giving some degree of thought to...

Right, what else.... Well, I'm done for the day, so I'm going to go home and work on my website and my guitar playing. And perhaps also tidy my room, but I'd not bet on it. My website is basically going to be adjective-army.com/james, when it's up. I think I'll also be hosting the AGRA, AGTS and AGSC sites on my domain, which will be good. The AGSC FAQ is posted by Spyda, who is now in the AA, so basically, any claim they may have previously had to being independent is long gone. AGSC - "W3 0wn j00!!1!!!"... It's kinda cool really, and we all knew it'd happen eventually. Half the "Pronoun Army" (a cheap spinoff of our paradigm) worships me and wants to be in the AA anyway, and nobody really bothers arguing with us any more. So basically, AGSC is yet another home group to us. And since we don't disrupt things and take them off-topic too much, all is good. They have our protection, should they need it, too :o)

I think I may also change my LJ style. My last_n page is identical almost to Brad's, and goodness knows how many other users. All part of having a style made public, I guess. But I need individuality sometimes, and this is one of those times. I'll stick with the boxes theme, but grey boxes on white is so boring - how about metallic cylinders on white? Inverting the gradient for indented parts and such - Mmmm.... Alternatively, I can always grab 3D Studio Max, Bryce 4, Poser 4, and the other 3D software I "own", and make myself something beautiful, and just turn it into a layout.... Perhaps I should build myself a dummy layout, onto which I can apply skins, which in turn could probably be defined in Overrides. I wonder if I can add my own BML blocks into the overrides section - I'll have to find out :o)

I'm out of things to say, so I think I'll stop here. I have a feeling this has been a long entry, yet I've only spend 30 minutes on it - am I slacking? Should I be writing more? I need feedback, input, comments etc. :o)

Title Thing Here...Erm

"The reason is this - experience counts for more than a flashy degree. My father has demonstrated this, as have numerous other people in my life, and it's bugging me. Which is what I said all along. It's all very well having a piece of paper saying you passed this and you passed that, but if you have no experience what-so-ever then this won't help you get far in life. Lots of people get degrees and what not. Now, when/if you get a degree and have some experience under your belt then you'll get lots of dosh and prolly a good job to boot. Do you see?

I say, do your course now you're there. You can get the neccesary experience when you've finished.

Whilst we are mentioning experience, I have got an interview next week sometime at Codemasters (Colin McRae etc.) for the fancy titled position of : "Quality Assurance Technican." :)

Re: Title Thing Here...Erm

*Ahem* "Technician" not "Technican" What ever one of those may be...

Re: Title Thing Here...Erm

*impressed* how does one get a job like that?

(hi, I'm one of James' hangers-on ... ;-) )

Re: Title Thing Here...Erm

You fuckin' bastard. "Quality Assurance Technician" means "Games Tester" and you bloody well know it too. Asshole ;o)

Re: Title Thing Here...Erm

Teehehehe! Sounds more impressive no? :p

Experience vs. school:
You need both, really ... sure there's a lot of people that have managed to work their way up without the education, but it takes one hell of a lot longer, it's exhausting, and it takes one whopping toll on your self-confidence.

You're already there at uni and doing well, hang in there. *hug* As your Xpander friend said, you'll get the experience later anyway.

Guitars:
James, you're not allowed to own something you can't spell. It's a BASS guitar, not 'base'. Yes, I know, it doesn't look the way it sounds. ;-) Trust me on this one. Misspelling is a cardinal sin from someone of your perfection, dear. ;-)

Writing more and all that:
Hell yes, write TONS more, I love reading about your life. ;-)

*!!!SCREAM!!!*

How the fuck did I manage to misspell "bass" repeatedly?!? I knew how to spell it... :o( And yes, it is a cardinal sin for somebody who tries to be perfect in everything he does, and who essentially lives in a text based world... I think I'm just going to curl up and die now :o(

*!!!SCREAM!!!*

God you're gorgeous when you're pissed off. 8-D

I rather thought so, considering who we're talking about. ;-) (don't worry, I'm one of the most anal people in the world about my own spelling, and still catch myself spelling words phonetically when I KNOW better. I think it's a byproduct of too little sleep and far too much time spent online, myself ;-) )

And yes, it is a cardinal sin for somebody who tries to be perfect in everything he does, and who essentially lives in a text based world... I think I'm just going to curl up and die now :o(

Bah, you normally succeed in being perfect. ;-) Maybe take this as a warning signal that you need to go out and get thoroughly ratarsed instead of being online all night. 8-)

*massive hug*

*!!!SCREAM!!!*

God you're gorgeous when you're pissed off. 8-D

Interesting....

Well, I can pretty much guarantee it got his attention, right? 8-)

I think he's immune to women thinking he's good looking, after the shinannigens at college.

CORRECT MY SPELLING AND ... I'LL CRY.

I think he's immune to women thinking he's good looking, after the shinannigens at college

Aha, but they're not parading it about in big letters on LJ for everyone to admire, are they?

CORRECT MY SPELLING AND ... I'LL CRY.

Well THAT threat worked. ;-) *hug*

This is true - they don't do that.... :o)

Oooh, I'm 'unique'. ;-)

[which is one step further down the slippery slope towards 'special' ... %-) ]

Oh, but you are special. But in a good way :o)

Awwwwwww hell.

%-)

*hug*

Thanks, James. :-)

Well the fact that I've suddenly realised how foul these women were hasn't done wonders for my confidence... But I'm not entirely immune :o)

God you're gorgeous when you're pissed off. 8-D

Well you're gorgeous all the time, so there ;oP

As for going out more - I agree. Lately, everything is a sign that I should go out and get pissed - and I mean everything. Going out tomorrow night and getting absolutely fucked, but until then, I shall remain sober :o(

Well you're gorgeous all the time, so there ;oP

Oh, aren't you wonderful. :-D Thank you, dear!

Going out tomorrow night and getting absolutely fucked, but until then, I shall remain sober :o(

I shall keep you safely away from sharp pointy words until then, my dear ... ;-)
